A unique medieval rock castle from the early 14th century set on three sandstone ridges north of Mnichovo Hradiště, in the Bohemian Paradise region. The castle complex includes rock chambers carved into sandstone, cellars, and fortifications. Managed by the village of Boseň since 1994, attracting approximately 13,000–15,000 visitors annually. Features an exhibition of archaeological finds and an introductory display.
Why visit this place?
The wooden castle was founded in the rocks after 1300 by the lords of Valečov; Jindřich z Vartenberka burned it down in 1439.
Poor locals still lived in the rock chambers in the 19th century and were evicted only by an order of 5 October 1892.
