The oldest zoo in the Czech Republic, founded in 1904, lies at the foot of Ještěd. It keeps over 170 animal species and around 850 individual animals. Educational programmes, zoo-education lessons and interactive exhibits for schools. New pavilion for big cats and reptiles.

Why visit this place?

• It is the oldest zoo in Czechia; archival research corrected its founding year to 1904, the previously cited 1919 being a mistake.
• In 1994 the big-cat pavilion was extended for a rare pair of white tigers from Eskilstuna in Sweden, Isabella and Columbo.
• The exhibition is interactive — it expects you to touch the exhibits and try them out.
• Allow roughly two and a half hours; the programme is aimed at every age group from preschool to secondary school.
