Zámek Brandýs nad Orlicí

Location: Komenského 1, 561 12 Brandýs nad Orlicí · Pardubice Region

Category: Baroque chateau

A Baroque chateau built between 1781 and 1783, bought at auction in 2019 by physician Pavel Skalický, who is gradually rescuing it from a derelict state. The chateau park, with around fifty newly planted trees and over two thousand shrubs, is freely accessible, the AMOS chateau café has been operating on the ground floor since 2026, and the interiors can be seen on guided tours with the castellan, held roughly once a fortnight. The tour is mainly about the history of the building, its owners and the progress of the restoration, rather than about furnished chateau rooms. The stay of Jan Amos Comenius with Karel the Elder of Žerotín between 1622 and 1625, during which he wrote The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart, is commemorated elsewhere in the town by an 1865 monument, a memorial room and a natural hornbeam labyrinth.
