The rafting hall in Purkarec commemorates the vanished raftsmen's trade on the Vltava. The museum is run by the Vltavan association in Purkarec, founded back in 1902 as a benevolent society for raftsmen, fishermen and riverside workers. The exhibition shows how people lived and worked along the Vltava before the construction of the Vltava dam cascade, when timber rafts were an inseparable part of the river's character. In 2012 Purkarec became the first municipality in the Czech Republic to receive the title of International Rafting Village, and in 2016 the association was entered in the List of Intangible Elements of Traditional Folk Culture of the South Bohemian Region.
