The museum is housed in a log-built Alpine house dating from 1794, located near the main square in Volary. The building is a unique example of Alpine vernacular architecture brought to the region by Tyrolean and Styrian shepherds in the 16th century. Permanent exhibitions: Death March (commemorating events of World War II), Old Volary in Photographs, the Golden Trail (a historic salt trade route), Fragments of History, Stations of the Cross, a church clock mechanism and sculptural works. Children's Paradise – a children's room from the 1940s. Each season is complemented by changing temporary exhibitions.
