The concrete gravity dam on the Jihlava river near Mohelno is 38.65 m high and 185 m long. The reservoir, with a total volume of 17.1 million m³, serves as the lower stage of the Dalešice pumped-storage power plant, and 11.3 million m³ of water is transferred between the two waterworks every day. Inside the dam itself is a ČEZ run-of-river power plant with a Kaplan and a Francis turbine rated at 1.2 and 0.6 MW. The waterworks is managed by Povodí Moravy; the visitor information centre is located at the neighbouring Dalešice power plant.

The Mohelno reservoir came into service in 1977 and works as the lower balancing basin of the Dalešice water scheme.
Its concrete dam is 185 metres long at the crest and 38.65 metres high above the bed; it took 89 400 cubic metres of concrete.
Admission is free, which helps when the class budget is tight.
