A functionalist villa from 1930 by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List (2001). Considered one of the most important works of 20th-century modern architecture. Guided tours by reservation only; capacity is limited. Not suitable for very young children.

Why visit this place?

• The whole front wall of the living room is glazed with seven large panes measuring 5 by 3.5 metres. Two of them could be lowered entirely below the floor, opening the room to the garden.
• The so-called onyx wall is not onyx at all but a variety of aragonite. At a certain angle it lets sunlight through and changes colour.
• Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 5,890 visitors on Google Maps — the best-rated place in this category in South Moravia.
• Allow roughly an hour; the programme is aimed at upper primary and secondary students.
