Velehrad is the most important pilgrimage site in Moravia and the centre of the Cyril and Methodius tradition. Since 2013, educational programmes for schools have been offered here on the topics of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the history of Velehrad, and Christian tradition. The programme is suitable as a one-day or multi-day excursion combining history, spirituality, and crafts.
Why visit this place?
The monastery was founded by the first twelve Cistercian monks, who came to the valley of the Salaška brook near the village of Veligrad.
The basilica is originally a late Romanesque building from the early 13th century; after a fire in 1681 it was rebuilt in Baroque style.
