The Museum of Folk Buildings in Kouřim is a supra-regional open-air museum preserving traditional rural architecture from central, eastern, and northern Bohemia dating from the 17th–19th centuries. On a 5-hectare site stand 14 relocated buildings with authentic interiors – residential houses, barns, granaries, workshops, and religious structures. The museum organises living ethnographic programmes and is suitable for school trips focused on rural history.
Why visit this place?
The first building moved here, in 1972, was a nine-sided timbered barn from 1648 from Durdice near Votice, roofed with thatch.
Cottage No. 8, probably from 1786, was moved here in 1973 from the flood zone of the Želivka reservoir. The museum was founded exactly for such rescues.
The open-air museum was founded in 1972 in an old orchard and opened to the public in 1976.
It is the only cross-regional open-air museum in the country and holds fourteen larger dwelling and farm buildings.

Besides the tour there are hands-on workshops, so children get to make something themselves.
Guided tours adapted for school groups: traditional crafts, rural ways of life, folk building architecture. During the season, living ethnographic events take place with demonstrations of traditional customs and crafts.
