The Fisheries Museum at the Secondary School of Fisheries in Vodňany features 20 aquariums with fish from Czech waters as well as exotic species – freshwater stingrays, Colombian fish, and the largest Amazon aquarium with a volume of 3,000 litres. The historical part of the exhibition traces the development of pond fish farming, artificial fish breeding, river fishing, and land surveying. Tours are guided.

Why visit this place?

• The secondary fishery school in Vodňany was founded in 1920, largely thanks to the efforts of Vácslav Josef Štěpán.
• Calls for such a school had been heard since 1898 from the South Bohemian anglers' association; the town of Vodňany offered the land.
• Allow roughly an hour; the programme is aimed at lower primary, upper primary and secondary students.
• There are 43 more tips within 25 km, enough to build a full-day trip.
• The whole programme is indoors, so rain is not a problem.
• There is a dedicated programme for school groups, not just general admission.
