The wooden Lázek lookout tower stands on the highest peak of the Zábřeh Highlands (715 m above sea level). It is located about 8 km east of Lanškroun above the village of Cotkytle. Built in 1933, the tower is 20 m tall, its viewing platform sits at 17 metres and 87 steps lead up to it. The view stretches towards the Orlické Mountains, the Jeseníky Mountains, the Iron Mountains, the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and, on clear days, the Krkonoše Mountains.

Why visit this place?

• Today's tower had a predecessor: a fifteen-metre wooden lookout from 1912 built beside a cairn dedicated to Svatopluk Čech. It was pulled down in 1918.
• Eighty-seven steps lead to the viewing platform 17 metres up; the tower was paid for by a collection of the Czech Tourists' Club, to a design by the architect Stejskal.
• Allow roughly an hour; the programme is aimed at lower primary, upper primary and secondary students.
• There are 42 more tips within 25 km, enough to build a full-day trip.
