The Krušovice brewery, founded in 1581, is one of the oldest breweries in Bohemia. The guided tour lasts about 90 minutes and covers the brewery's history as well as the beer-making process. Regular tours without reservation take place on Mondays and Saturdays at 11:00 and 13:00; all other dates must be booked at least a week in advance. Children under 12, students and seniors get discounted admission, and the closing beer tasting is only for visitors over 18. Sturdy footwear is required.

Why visit this place?

• The brewery was founded under the St Wenceslas Treaty of 1517, and the exact date of its origin lies somewhere between 1517 and 1581.
• In 1583 emperor Rudolf II bought it and had Krušovice beer delivered to Prague Castle, which is where the name royal brewery comes from.
• Allow roughly an hour and a half; the programme is aimed at secondary students.
• There are 39 more tips within 25 km, enough to build a full-day trip.
• The whole programme is indoors, so rain is not a problem.
