The unique baroque fortress town of Josefov near Jaroměř, featuring an extensive system of underground passages and bastions from the 18th century. Tours lead through the underground defense network — tunnels, casemates, and subterranean corridors beneath the fortress. Josefov is one of the best-preserved baroque fortresses in Central Europe.

The foundation stone of the fortress town was laid on 3 October 1780 and the works consumed some 360 million bricks from Jaroměř brickyards.
The fortifications are known for an exceptionally large network of mine galleries about 42 kilometres long.
