Peklo is a dramatic 10 km canyon of the Metuje river connecting Nové Město nad Metují and Náchod — with rock gorges up to 200 m deep covered by old-growth forest. A network of marked trails for hikers and cyclists runs through the nature reserve; at its centre stands the Art Nouveau Bartoňova útulna lodge designed by architect Dušan Jurkovič. An excellent site for teaching geology, river ecosystem ecology and regional history.
