Památník Josefa Lady a jeho dcery Aleny

Location: Josefa Lady 115, 251 66 Hrusice · Central Bohemia

Category: memorial to a notable figure

The memorial is housed in villa no. 115, designed in 1933 by architect Čeněk Vořech, a student of Jan Kotěra, and used by the Lada family for summer stays. The exhibition traces the life of the painter, writer and illustrator, his illustrations for Hašek's Švejk and for children's fairy-tale books, and the independent work of his daughter Alena Ladová. The property includes a large garden with Lada-themed sculptures, an arboretum of old fruit varieties and an eco-trail about the elements of nature. For schools and kindergartens the memorial runs guided teaching sessions in the art workshop in the basement, and primary school pupils receive worksheets.

Practical information

For schools

Guided teaching sessions (about 40 minutes) can be added to a tour or booked separately; they take place in the art workshop in the basement, or in the garden in good weather. They focus on art and handicraft activities linked to the work and life of Josef Lada and to folk traditions. Worksheets are prepared for primary school pupils, while kindergarten children are offered only the art part, adapted to their age. There is an eco-trail about the elements of nature in the garden, and a short art course runs in summer. A guided tour takes about 30 minutes, or around 45 minutes with an educational programme.
