A former school building below Vranov nad Dyjí Castle houses large aquariums with native freshwater fish from Moravian rivers and reservoirs. The largest tank, holding 8,500 litres, is home to carp and three species of sturgeon. They are complemented by aquariums with eels, catfish and other rare fish species – the exhibition also includes a section devoted to the history of fishing, with historical wicker traps, nets and trophies.

Why visit this place?

• A mirror maze was added to the giant aquarium exhibition in 2019; both are housed in the original building of the Vranov upper school.
• Among the freshwater fish of Czech waters you will spot unusual species such as sturgeons, catfish and eels.
• Allow roughly 45 minutes; the programme is aimed at lower primary, upper primary and secondary students.
• There are 23 more tips within 25 km, enough to build a full-day trip.
• The whole programme is indoors, so rain is not a problem.

Guided tour of freshwater aquariums with commentary on river and reservoir fish of South Moravia. The fishing exhibition on the first floor offers a glimpse into the history of angling in the region. Excellent for combining with a visit to Vranov nad Dyjí castle or Podyjí National Park.
