The Neo-Baroque building of the Antonín Dvořák Theatre was designed by architect Alexander Graf and opened ceremonially on 28 September 1907.
It was the first theatre in Czechoslovakia to use reinforced-concrete girders; until 1919 only German-language performances were staged here.
