The Prácheňské muzeum in Písek is located in the historic centre and presents the history of the Písek region. It covers the period from prehistory to modern times and offers educational programmes for schools with an emphasis on regional history and archaeology. The historic walk also includes the nearby Kamenný most (Stone Bridge) over the Otava, built around the third quarter of the 13th century – the oldest surviving bridge in the Czech Republic and a national cultural monument.
Why visit this place?
The bridge over the Otava is 109.75 metres long, 6.25 metres wide and rests on six piers; the first written mention of it dates only to 1348.
Legend says it is nicknamed the Deer Bridge because the first to cross to the far bank was a deer from the nearby woods.
Besides the tour there are hands-on workshops, so children get to make something themselves.
Allow roughly an hour and a quarter; the programme is aimed at lower primary, upper primary and secondary students.
