An air-raid shelter cut from 1942 beneath the rock topped by the Větruše lookout chateau, rebuilt in the 1950s as a nuclear civil-defence shelter. Visitors walk 500 metres of open corridors past a working ventilation plant, a first-aid post, a telephone exchange and a collection of gas masks. Tours by prior arrangement only, for groups of 15 or more.
Why visit this place?
Work on the shelter beneath the rock topped by the Větruše chateau began in 1942 and a total of 750 metres of tunnels were driven here.
Between 1952 and 1956 it was rebuilt as a nuclear shelter; 500 metres of corridors are open today, with a working ventilation plant and gas masks dating back to 1920.
Allow roughly an hour and a half; the programme is aimed at lower primary, upper primary and secondary students.
There are 72 more tips within 25 km, enough to build a full-day trip.
The whole programme is indoors, so rain is not a problem.
There is a dedicated programme for school groups, not just general admission.
