A replica of a World War II anti-aircraft shelter housed in a historic mid-19th-century tunnel beneath Zakázanka hill in Prague Zoo. Period furnishings, a sound backdrop and information about the zoo's life under Nazi occupation bring the everyday reality of wartime Prague to life.
Why visit this place?
The tunnel in the rock below Zakázanka was cut back in the 1850s, most likely in an attempt to mine iron ore. During the Second World War it served as an air-raid shelter.
It now holds a replica of a wartime shelter, a short walk from the large raptor aviary — a different kind of site from the post-war nuclear bunkers.
The exhibition is interactive — it expects you to touch the exhibits and try them out.
