The first Czech vocational lace-making school in Vamberk has been teaching bobbin lace since 1889. Since 2006 it has been an organisational unit of the town of Vamberk and around 140 students — children and adults alike — attend its hobby courses. The Vamberk Lace Museum grew out of the school's collections in 1929, and the school organises lace exhibitions and fashion shows.

Why visit this place?

• In 1905 it was the only specialist lace school in the whole of Austria-Hungary that also taught drawing; its first teacher was Aloisie Kubiasová.
• The Lace Museum was founded from the school's collections in 1929, and today around 140 girls and women attend its bobbin lace courses.
• Besides the tour there are hands-on workshops, so children get to make something themselves.
• Allow roughly two hours; the programme is aimed at lower primary, upper primary and secondary students.
• There are 40 more tips within 25 km, enough to build a full-day trip.
• The whole programme is indoors, so rain is not a problem.
