• In 1806 a doctor from England, Christian Frobrig, came to Karlovy Vary and left Becher a recipe on departure. From 1807 Josef Vitus Becher sold the liqueur as English Bitter.
• In 1866 Karel Laube, Jan Becher's brother-in-law, designed the flat bottle, kept unchanged since 1907. The liqueur is nicknamed the thirteenth Karlovy Vary spring.
