A unique complex of a medieval castle and Baroque château preserving the Reliquary of St. Maurus – the most precious example of medieval goldsmith art in the Czech Republic. The golden reliquary from the 9th century is a national cultural treasure that was hidden from the Nazis and Communists.
Why visit this place?
The reliquary of St Maurus dates from the first third of the 13th century and is the second most valuable movable monument in the country after the crown jewels.
The Beaufort-Spontin family hid it under the floor of the castle chapel in 1945; it was found in 1985 and restored between 1991 and 2002.
