Trosky Castle is the most famous landmark of Bohemian Paradise — its twin basalt volcanic towers known as Panna (Virgin, 57 m) and Baba (Old Woman, 47 m) are visible from great distances. The castle was built in the 14th century and its ruins are accessible from April to October. An ideal destination for school trips covering geology, medieval history, and landscape conservation.
Why visit this place?
The Hussites besieged the castle in vain in 1424 and 1428. It fell only in 1469, when the garrison surrendered to the army of George of Poděbrady.
In 1841 work began on a spiral staircase up to the top of the Panna tower, but the builder died in 1843 and it was never finished.
