A film centre in the grounds of the Zlín film studios. It was created in 2016 by renovating two buildings, the oldest of which was commissioned in 1936 by Jan Antonín Baťa for the production of advertising and instructional films. The 19—35mm exhibition charts the history of Zlín film-making and the figures who worked here – Karel Zeman, Hermína Týrlová and the later Oscar-winning directors Elmar Klos and Alexandr Hackenschmied. In the animation workshops children create their own short animated film; there is also the Lojzík children's playroom, a cinema hall and a film café.
Why visit this place?
The Film Hub opened in 2016 in the Zlín studio complex and adjoins a brick building from 1936 built for the advertising and training films of the Baťa company.
Karel Zeman and Hermína Týrlová worked in these studios, as did the later Oscar-winning directors Elmar Klos and Alexander Hackenschmied.
Besides the tour there are hands-on workshops, so children get to make something themselves.
Allow roughly an hour and a half; the programme is aimed at every age group from preschool to secondary school.
There are 78 more tips within 25 km, enough to build a full-day trip.
The whole programme is indoors, so rain is not a problem.
