One of the most important late Gothic cathedrals in Europe, inscribed together with the historic centre of Kutná Hora on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Dedicated to St Barbara, patron saint of miners, the church was built from the proceeds of the local silver mines, and its decoration including rare medieval frescoes reflects the town's mining and minting history. Visitors admire the monumental tent roof, the buttress system and the interior with frescoes and stained glass.

The church was founded in 1388 by the miners themselves and dedicated to St Barbara, their patron saint — construction rose and fell with the output of the local silver mines.
The original plan was for a building twice as long. Work stopped for good in 1558 and a provisional wall still closes the western end. It has been a UNESCO site since 1995.
