The Art Nouveau Becher Villa from 1914, built for Gustav Becher, today serves as a branch of the Karlovy Vary Art Gallery. Since 2011 it has operated as an interactive gallery and cultural-educational centre with contemporary art exhibitions, educational activities and workshops in an architecturally unique space.

Why visit this place?

• The villa was built only in autumn and winter so that the works would not disturb the spa season in the neighbouring villas; the design was by architect Karl Heller.
• The 2009-2011 restoration cost 88.7 million crowns, of which 77.6 million crowns came from subsidies.
• Besides the tour there are hands-on workshops, so children get to make something themselves.
• Allow roughly an hour and a quarter; the programme is aimed at lower primary, upper primary and secondary students.
• There are 71 more tips within 25 km, enough to build a full-day trip.
• The whole programme is indoors, so rain is not a problem.
