Liberec Botanical Garden is a pioneering site in Czech aquaristics – in 1965 it became the first institution in the country to present marine aquaria to the public. The aquarium pavilion offers freshwater tanks with species from South American rivers, African wetlands and North American waters, including so-called living fossils, as well as marine aquaria with tropical oceanic and coral reef ecosystems. These are complemented by a spectacled caiman and a Mexican axolotl. The garden offers school educational programmes.
